Left to right – Theo, Myles, Alex (CDS undergrad, now grad), Eve, Pauline, Jayme (CDS undergrad, now grad)- missing Alejandra in this picture.
These students worked very hard with their creativity, flexibility, and perseverance.
Their fantastic creativity and clinical work throughout the semester included Alex and Eve (who led a moving, social-justice inspired Aphasia Book Club that got us all hooked), Theo, Pauline, and Jayme (who led one of the best renditions of aphasia choir we have had and a perfect return from the pandemic to live music), and Myles and Alejandra (who facilitated a novel Therapeutic Gaming group ending with a full-of-laughs finale of White Elephant- clients have already said they want this group to continue).
Every client and their family have expressed how much it meant to have this space, to return from the pandemic, and how grateful they were to our clinicians

The Early Childhood Institute remains committed to supporting the delivery of equitable, responsive, and inclusive care and education for young children. The Early Childhood Institute 2023 Professional Meeting is designed to address the questions professionals are asking. Presentations and panel discussions with faculty/researchers, policymakers, and leaders from the field will engage the audience in conversations about the focus and impact of policy changes on both early learning programs and practices and the professionals working with young children.
In order to put together a first-class learning and networking experience for professionals and students to be held in Spring 2023, we have launched a Day of Giving crowdfunding campaign to ask for support from advocates for early childhood like you.
There are lots of ways you can help with our campaign. Follow this link to find out more!
NSSLHA is raising money to support student members to attend a state-wide professional conference as an effort to support our student scholars, inspire more students, and diversify the profession to better serve our communities. The California Speech Language Hearing Association (CSHA) holds an annual conference that targets students and professionals in the field with the latest research and professional education opportunities. This is a great opportunity for students to network, and learn about the many ways our profession contributes to the wellbeing of those with communication disorders and differences. This has traditionally been the venue that brings inspiration and excitement in students to continue with their education into the profession.
This will be the first year since the pandemic that we will be able to send our students to this conference, but only with your help!

SJSU students prepare to exercise their right to vote. Photo: Robert C. Bain.
San José State University Political Science Professor Mary Currin-Percival encourages people to be aware of their rights. As director of SJSU’s Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (IPACE) and the on-campus voter registration, mobilization, and education initiative SJSU Votes!, Currin-Percival’s focus is to inform SJSU students about the November 8th election. Midterm elections also provide an important opportunity for voters to voice their opinions on local and state ballot items, along with the city council, mayor, and state legislators.
San José State will have a voting station at the Provident Credit Union Event Center starting on Saturday, Oct. 29. Doors open from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. every day on the south side of the Event Center, near the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center — and on election day, it will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Currin-Percival shared five recommended actions you can take before the November midterm elections, to learn more, click here
