The College of Graduate Studies is excited to announce that applications are now available for the 2023 Grad Slam Competition! We encourage students from all disciplines to apply (students graduating in Fall 2022 are also eligible). Whether you’re building a widget, chasing fires, or unearthing discoveries in art history, we want to hear from you! Applications are due by February 20, 2023.

What is Grad Slam?

Grad Slam at San José State University is a campus-wide competition for the best three-minute research talk given by a graduate student. Speakers are judged by a panel based on their ability to successfully engage a non-specialist audience while communicating key details about their research.

Why Participate?

Benefits of participation include the opportunity to showcase your research or creative activity, engage in professional development activities through our curated public speaking workshops, obtain a professionally filmed video of your presentation to add to your LinkedIn account for employers to view, and win cash prizes ($1,200 for 1st place, $800 for 2nd place, and $500 for audience choice)!
