Remembering Norman Mineta

We were saddened today to learn about the passing of Secretary Norman Y. Mineta, a friend not only to SJSU but to our entire nation for his many contributions. Secretary Mineta, a San José native, was a legendary, towering figure who made important, lasting, positive contributions to our region and country.

Supporting Our Students’ Basic Needs

During my time here at SJSU, one of the things that I have been most impressed with is the willingness of our students, faculty and staff to help each other. I share that same spirit, and one of my key goals as Interim President is to ensure that we are serving our students in the best ways possible, particularly their basic needs, and especially their need for housing security.

Waving the Spartan Flag

It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly three months since I joined San José State University as interim president. Brian Bates, Former AVP for Alumni and Community Engagement, Passes Away

It is with deep sadness that I report to you the passing of Brian Bates, who recently left SJSU after a memorable and impactful 15-year tenure at our campus. Brian served in several leadership roles in alumni relations throughout his career in higher education and, in addition to his substantial duties in alumni relations at San José State, most recently guided his team with the management and logistics of SJSU’s commencement ceremonies.

SJSU’s participation in City of San José 2022 Resident Satisfaction survey

For the third year in a row, we are being invited to participate in the City of San José’s annual Resident Satisfaction Survey. I hope you’ll join me in taking this survey, as it exemplifies our role as an engaged partner in San José.
