Welcome to Fall Semester, San José State! It’s always a great day to be a Spartan, and it’s particularly great to see all of you here in person in this beautiful, historic venue.
It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly three months since I joined San José State University as interim president. As I’ve very much enjoyed listening to members of our campus community and learning about this incredible university, it feels like a great time to offer a report of sorts on what I’ve observed.
As we continue to bask in last week’s joyous in-person Commencement ceremonies and prepare for a well-deserved holiday break, I find myself reflecting on all that has taken place during my tenure as SJSU president. Perhaps it is that nostalgia that we experience when one special chapter in our life comes to an end.
Earlier this morning, the CSU’s Office of the Chancellor announced the selection of Stephen Perez, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at California State University, Sacramento, as the interim president of SJSU. Provost Perez will assume leadership of the campus on Jan. 3, 2022.
Hello, members of the San José State campus community! I am delighted to welcome all of you to the Fall 2021 semester. And what a semester this promises to be! I, for one, am very much looking forward to the repopulation of our campus and getting back to some semblance of pre-pandemic normalcy.
