Welcome to Fall Semester, San José State! It’s always a great day to be a Spartan, and it’s particularly great to see all of you here in person in this beautiful, historic venue.
I write to inform you of the decision letter from the WSCUC Accreditation Reaffirmation process. The commission has reaccredited San José State for six years through the spring of 2028 and is requiring a visit in the spring of 2025. I am anxious and excited to get to work addressing the recommendations of the Review Team and Commission.
San José State University has a proud tradition of supporting social justice and speaking out against harmful inequities, including in access to health care. The U.S. Supreme Court ruling that overturns Roe v. Wade is a jarring rebuttal of those values.
I hope many of you had the opportunity to see Spartan success in action at one of our inspiring spring commencement ceremonies. We now have over 10,000 new alumni — with more than 7,500 graduates in spring 2022 and 2,500 in fall 2021 — proudly holding diplomas from San José State University.
We were saddened today to learn about the passing of Secretary Norman Y. Mineta, a friend not only to SJSU but to our entire nation for his many contributions. Secretary Mineta, a San José native, was a legendary, towering figure who made important, lasting, positive contributions to our region and country.
