Commencement celebrations and personal reflections

Watching so many of SJSU’s recent and current graduates walking the stage this week and contemplating all that has happened during their years on our campus has been inspiring. Though their stories are all their own, they intersect with my own SJSU journey, one I have reflected on while seeing the joy on the faces of graduates crossing the stage.

Report from SJSU’S Task Force on Community Safety and Policing

Today, I am pleased to share the Report and Recommendations from the Task Force on Community Safety and Policing. It is a comprehensive and thoughtful work, one that provides an important framework for addressing critical issues of campus safety and policing.

Transformation 2030 continues to unfold as “living, breathing” plan

As I prepare to speak at my final Commencement ceremonies in December and my stepping down from my role as president at San José State at the end of the year, I would like to reflect on Transformation 2030 and the incredible progress we have made in making this a living, breathing, actionable strategic plan.

Best wishes for a safe, restful and healthy long weekend

As we look ahead to upcoming commencement ceremonies and the anticipation we share with our current and recent graduates, we pause these next few days for a brief but welcomed holiday break. The extended weekend is, for many of us, a time to reflect, spend time with loved ones and express gratitude for what we have.

“Share Your Spartan Heart” and Support Our Students

I am pleased today to kick off a timely and related campaign, one that begins today and continues until Dec. 10. Known as “Share Your Spartan Heart,” the campaign is intended to raise awareness among students that SJSU Cares services are available, and give faculty, staff and students a way to support these efforts. The campaign offers all members of our campus community the opportunity to donate to SJSU Cares and thus help those students in need with food and emergency housing support.
