Masters of Science in Mathematics

The program is the result of collaboration of mathematics, computer science, and physics
faculty and is designed to address the global need for people with advanced mathematical,
analytical, and computational skills. Students are provided with a strong background in
mathematics and its applications as well as skills necessary to conduct independent
research. The program incorporates interdisciplinary applications such as bioinformatics,
actuarial sciences, cryptography, security, image recognition, artificial intelligence,
mathematics education, and the philosophy of mathematics. Students’ specializations
depend on the electives chosen and on the final thesis/project conducted under the
supervision of an advisor/mentor. An individual study plan can be designed to meet entry
requirements for Ph.D. programs in mathematics or the mathematical sciences. For more information, see the flier below

MS Statistics Internship Opportunity

Analysis & Inference Inc.  is looking for statistical interns from the MS professional science master’s program. The company is a statistical consulting service in Philadelphia, PA. This is a half-time (20 hrs/week) paid position. More details can be found below.

The internships are for half-time work, or 20 hours a week, for periods to be determined beginning January, 2014, summer of 2014, and Fall/Winter 2014.  The salary is $400/week.  International students will require appropriate authorization to work off campus.

The responsibilities of the position are:  statistical analysis and computation; assisting with research as needed; and helping to establish standard operating methods for work on behalf of our clients.

Qualifications are training in statistics and computing at the MS level, a desire to make a contribution, and fluency in conversation.  Pluses are knowledge of R and Stata, sampling methods and Bayesian statistics.
