MS Statistics Internship Opportunity

Analysis & Inference Inc.  is looking for statistical interns from the MS professional science master’s program. The company is a statistical consulting service in Philadelphia, PA. This is a half-time (20 hrs/week) paid position. More details can be found below.

The internships are for half-time work, or 20 hours a week, for periods to be determined beginning January, 2014, summer of 2014, and Fall/Winter 2014.  The salary is $400/week.  International students will require appropriate authorization to work off campus.

The responsibilities of the position are:  statistical analysis and computation; assisting with research as needed; and helping to establish standard operating methods for work on behalf of our clients.

Qualifications are training in statistics and computing at the MS level, a desire to make a contribution, and fluency in conversation.  Pluses are knowledge of R and Stata, sampling methods and Bayesian statistics.

NASA internship opportunities

The Systems Teaching Institute (STI) at NASA Ames Research Center is currently offering two internship positions in Information Sciences.

Selected students will gain hands-on experience working with cutting-edge research and development teams and an increased understanding of the NASA mission.  Besides working closely with Ames scientists and engineers, students will have the opportunity to attend seminars tailored to their level of expertise, career development workshops, and various symposiums.

Job Description 

Prescio is looking for a Quant to work within the Quant team in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Tasks include but are not limited to:

–        Assist in development and validation of banking and financial markets projects involving credit risk model(s): Calculation and validation of Probability of Default, Loss Given Default and Exposure at Default; Develop recovery rate assumptions and exposure at default estimation and their ongoing validations and refinements.

–        Assist in development and validation of operational risk model(s): Apply LDA (Loss Distribution Approach) to calculate VAR (Value at Risk) for each business line and loss type of a financial institution; Develop methods to combine internal loss data with external data and scenario data; Apply EVT (Extreme Value Theory) to model and simulate heavy tailed data.

–      Assist in development and validation of market risk model(s): Implement historical simulation and Monte Carlo simulation to calculate VAR of portfolios.

Required Skills / Education

  • Ph.D. or MS in statistics, mathematics, applied mathematics, physics, engineering or related quantitative field. Note: all applicants fairly considered.
  • Excellent spoken and written English, ability to present complex subjects

Useful Skills or willingness to train in:

  • Risk model validation techniques: Scenario Analysis; Stress Testing; Back Testing
  • Credit risk measurement methods for PD (probability of default), LDG (loss given default) and EAD (exposure at default)
  • quantitative risk capital modeling
  • Development skills in C++, Java and VBA
