New Info About Writing Skills Test

The Writing Requirements Committee (WRC) has made the following changes to the Writing Skills Test (WST) effective Spring 2015. Here is a list of changes:

 1. The elimination of the objective component for the WST.

The elimination of this component will allow students to receive WST scores in 2-3 weeks rather than 4-5 weeks after the test date. Students will no longer be able to mix and match scores after February 2015.

2. Increased time for the test.

Students will have ten extra minutes to proofread their essay.

3. The re-calibration of scores.

The Testing Office will provide retroactive passes to students who previously failed the test with an essay score of 7 (4+3=7). Students should contact the Testing Office at testing-office@sjsu.edu to get their score converted to a passing score.

4. Enrollment for ENGL or LLD 100A

Students cannot enroll in ENGL or LLD 100A unless they have failed the WST twice, starting Spring 2015. If students have problems enrolling in the 100A course, they should email testing-office@sjsu.edu.

5. Late Registration for the WST

Late registration is for continuing students and students with a SJSU ID only. Students will register for the test online. Refer to this website for information: http://testing.sjsu.edu/wst/wstreg/index.html.
