Recently, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released additional guidance specific to large events, raising hopes that in-person commencement ceremonies might be a possibility for SJSU graduates. After careful review of the revised California state and Santa Clara county guidelines, we are delighted to announce that a mix of in-person and online celebratory activities will be available this May to honor our Spring Class of 2021 graduates.
Though it is early in the semester, I know there is great interest in the University’s plans to recognize our spring graduates this coming May. Despite the impacts on our daily lives brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, we are determined to celebrate important milestones and support and honor our graduates in an uplifting and memorable way.
As we near the end of a difficult 2020, we have two end-of-year occasions—fall graduation and our extended holiday break—to which we can look forward. Each offers us a welcome respite from the challenges we have faced these past nine months.
In the midst of so many challenges—including the new COVID-19 restrictions announced by the State of California last week—we now have an opportunity to refresh and recharge over the upcoming holiday break. For many of us, the long weekend is a time for reflection, connection and for giving thanks for what we have.
Because we are so proud of our fall graduates and truly believe their achievements should be celebrated to the fullest extent possible, we are working hard on an engaging online recognition experience that will highlight their individuality and hard work.
