SJSU’s digital transformation was no accident, but a result of planning and forward-thinking

While the pandemic these past 18 months has been fraught with many challenges for institutions such as ours, a silver lining of sorts at San José State has been the incredible success of our digital platforms. Specifically, the SJSU technology team was critical to our ability to pivot to a virtual environment when we suddenly needed to do so.

Stepping Away from the Presidency

On September 25, after thoughtful consideration and discussions with my family, I made the decision to step away as president of San José State University at the end of the fall semester. I truly love this university and believe this choice will allow the focus going forward to be on our talented, diverse, and outstanding campus. I will conclude my tenure as president on December 21, 2021.

Remembering the Heroes of 9/11

Today, we continue to honor those heroes from 20 years ago as well as a new generation of firefighters, paramedics and others who may have become inspired on that fateful day to serve others. We also celebrate new and emerging heroes such as healthcare personnel and other essential employees who are working to keep us all safe and healthy during the global pandemic. On this 20th anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, we also remember and honor the courage of those who perished on that catastrophic day.

Our Growing Reputation As Silicon Valley’s Public Graduate School

I had the opportunity earlier this spring to offer welcome remarks at the CSU’s Grad Slam competition. As our College of Graduate Studies is the first graduate college in the CSU system, we were honored and delighted to host our Cal State colleagues and campus representatives. The event reminded me of all the amazing progress we have made with our graduate programs these past few years.

Recognizing Our 2020, Spring 2021, and Fall 2021 Graduates With In-Person Commencement Ceremonies

I am delighted to announce today that after thoughtful, in-depth discussions with students and other critical stakeholders, San José State University plans on hosting in-person commencement ceremonies this December for the first time in nearly two years. These ceremonies will celebrate both our fall graduates as well as those graduates from our 2020 and spring 2021 classes.
