SJSU@work: Reporting 10pm-2am Shifts

We have a lot of students that are inputting the 10:00pm-2:00am shift hours differently every month.  In order to be consistent, we are asking all OA’s to please start entering their hours in 2 hours increments.  After completing a shift from 10pm-2am make sure to report your hours in SJSU@work starting with the 2 hours that you worked on the first day (the beginning of your shift) and 2 hours that you worked on the second day (the end of your shift). Here is an example of how they would be reported:

If you had a shift on June 2nd, from 10pm-2am, you would go into SJSU@work, input 2 hours for June 2nd, and 2 hours for June 3rd.

Make sure to review the manual if you have any questions.

Remember! All OA’s should be entering their hours at the end of your shift!

Calling in Sick

We wanted to remind OA’s of the process for calling in sick to your shift ahead of your scheduled shift and during your shift.

  • Prior to your scheduled shift: If you begin to feel sick, please notify the Community Desk Team via email to the res-life-frontdesks@sjsu.edu with a subject line of Sick. DO NOT put in a drop/swap request as sick time is considered different. Unauthorized swaps of shifts outside of When I Work or supervisor approval could result in a dismissal of the OA position.
  • During your shift: If you begin to feel sick and need to leave your shift, notify the Community Desk Team. If you do not clock out of your shift, this will be considered a no show and could result in a dismissal of the OA position.

If your sickness lasts beyond 72 hours please provide medical documentation. The documentation should include the employee’s name, the date and time the employee was seen, and if applicable, a specific instruction regarding the employee’s incapacity to perform his or her job.

Lost and Found Items

Lost and found items should NOT be collected and kept by the front desk staff. When a student brings lost and found items to the desk, please refer them to the UPD’s Lost and Found.

If items are left behind at the front desk by other students the please notify the Community Desk Team via email and we will make sure to come by and pick them up on the next rounds.
