CASA CARHS Grants Academy Applications Due Next Week!
Last year, I was one of seven CASA faculty members who participated in the Academy. With the support and structure of the Academy, I completed and submitted a major funding proposal to NIJ. Not only did participation in the Academy provide me with the substantive material and information that I needed to draft and complete the proposal, but even more important to me, it provided a supportive community of like-minded researchers from across campus – once a month I got to be in the same room with a group of dedicated scholars at all levels, from Assistant to full Professor, to talk about our work, the experience of grant-writing, and the challenges and rewards of doing research at SJSU.
There are monthly seminars, really wonderful mentors from across campus, statistical consultation if you need it, submission incentives, and they arrange for you get a review of your proposal from a senior scholar in your field. If you’re interested in doing funded research, I really encourage you to apply. If you have any questions about what it was like or if it’s right for you, feel free to email me (danielle.harris@sjsu.edu).
Applications are due 10/19/12 to CARHS steering committee member Dr. Van Ta Park (van.ta@sjsu.edu).
