Effects of Music on Muscle Endurance and Perceived Exertion
A research team in the Kinesiology Department is looking at the effects of music on muscle endurance. Men or women between 18 and 30 years-of-age, who are not currently training using weights or enrolled in weight training or body sculpting classes, are eligible to participate. There will be an initial session followed by three test sessions. During the initial session, we’ll determine the maximal weight you can lift 8 times on three exercises (leg press, lat pull, chest press). This session will take about 45 minutes. During the other three test sessions, you’ll do one warm-up set followed by a set where you lift the weight determined in the initial session as many times as possible. During these three sessions, you will either have no music, or listen to self-selected or pre-selected music. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire before and after each test session. Each of these sessions will last about 30 min.
