Traveling for the holidays? Stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic

#Spartans, are you thinking about traveling for the holidays? For the lowest risk, it is strongly recommended to stay home and celebrate with those in your household. Participate in virtual activities to celebrate with those outside of your household.

If you choose to travel, consider these tips to help reduce your risk of getting COVID-19.

Before you travel: Take extra steps to stay healthy

  • Get your flu shot! Free flu shots are available at the Student Health Center. Please call 408-924-6122 to make an appointment. For more local options, visit sccphd.org/flu.
  • Minimize your risk of exposure by limiting the number of people you are in contact with
  • Pack enough masks and hand sanitizer for your travel
  • Check for any travel restrictions at your destination. Are you required to quarantine? Check official state websites for more information.

Day of travel: Protect yourself

  • Limit your stops. If you’re driving, pack enough snacks and food so you don’t have to stop often. If you’re flying, try to get on a direct flight to your destination.
  • Wear a face covering and stay physically distant from others
  • Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds. Use hand sanitizer when washing your hands isn’t an option.
  • Self-quarantine and delay travel if you are sick or have been exposed

During the holidays: Protect others

  • Stay physically distant from others if you can
  • Wear a face covering and avoid close contact.
  • If there are testing options available to you, get tested!
  • Eat outside with others or in separate rooms inside

When you return: Get tested

  • Get tested! Even if you feel fine and have no symptoms, it’s possible to have COVID-19 and spread it to others. Visit sccfreetest.org for local testing options.
  • Self-quarantine for 14 days after you have returned or until your test results come back negative
