3/3/14 – Jessy Goodman (2013 Salzburg Scholar) has developed a course template for English 1A, with globally relevant instructional units and activities to reach students across majors, and is teaching a pilot version in Spring 2014 with the ultimate hope that this may result in an ongoing globally-themed English 1A offering.  Contact Jessy Goodman for more information or check out the course syllabus.

Visiting Professors | University of Florida

3/3/14 – Mike Conniff (2009 Salzburg Fellow) and Anne Fountain (2009 Salzburg Fellow) are spending the Spring 2014 semester at the University of Florida, where they have been engaged in globalizing activities in addition to their teaching responsibilities.  Mike taped a television interview on “Myths about the Panama Canal” for the Discovery Channel and Anne was part of an outreach workshop on Latin American Studies in the curriculum organized by the University’s Latin American Studies Center.  Both have been featured in Spanish–language interviews for the University of Florida’s radio programming.  Contact Mike Conniff or Anne Fountain for more information.

 

MCOM 180 | Global Leadership (Paris and Madrid)

6/16-7/11/2014 – Matt Cabot (2009 Salzburg Fellow | Journalism & Mass Communications) is leading his fourth consecutive summer study abroad program in Europe.  MCOM 180 is a 6-unit | four-week course on Global Leadership that is designed to help prepare students to live and work in an increasingly “globalized” world.  Visits to some of Europe’s top strategic communication firms, class lectures, and variety of cultural activities will introduce students to the kind of “global mindset” necessary to think, act, and lead globally.  For more information, visit the Study Abroad MCOM 180 information page  or view a brief promo video.  Contact Dr. Cabot with specific questions.

 

DC Summer Internship | National Council on US-Arab Relations

2/28/14 @ 1:00-5:30 –  Applications are due for a paid 10-week internship with the National Council on US-Arab Relations in Washington, DC (summer 2014).  Interns will engage in a variety of professional work experiences combined with weekly evening seminars that bring academic experts and experienced foreign policy practitioners to meet with the interns in candid off-the-record discussions and freewheeling question and answer sessions.  Contact the Council website for applications and more information.

 

AS 55 Awards | Associated Students

2/26/14 @ AS House – Nominations are being accepted by Associated Students for the 2014 AS 55 Awards.  These awards are an annual opportunity to honor and recognize the unsung heroes and leaders of San Jose State University – those students who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to SJSU and have continually given back to the campus community.  Nominations can be made fellow students, faculty, staff, administrators and community members.  Up to 55 students are chosen by a selection committee and then celebrated at the annual Student Leadership Gala awards ceremony (4/24/14).  Contact the AS Website for more information, as well as the attached flyer/nomination form.
