3/3/14 – Mike Conniff (2009 Salzburg Fellow) and Anne Fountain (2009 Salzburg Fellow) are spending the Spring 2014 semester at the University of Florida, where they have been engaged in globalizing activities in addition to their teaching responsibilities.  Mike taped a television interview on “Myths about the Panama Canal” for the Discovery Channel and Anne was part of an outreach workshop on Latin American Studies in the curriculum organized by the University’s Latin American Studies Center.  Both have been featured in Spanish–language interviews for the University of Florida’s radio programming.  Contact Mike Conniff or Anne Fountain for more information.

 

World Changer Scholars | SJSU

2/13/14 – Travis Lopez (2012 Salzburg Scholar), founder of the World Changer Scholars Program, has announced the first award recipients.  The World Changer Scholars for 2014-2015 are Patricia Aubel (BS in Mathematics), who was selected to help launch her Revitalize project; and Trinity Vu (BS in Accounting), who was selected to help launch herChildren of the Planet Foundation.   In addition to Mr. Lopez, the Selection Committee also included Malu Roldan (2013 Salzburg Fellow | Associate Dean – College of Business) and Bill Reckmeyer (Program Director – SJSU Salzburg Program).  Explore the World Changer Scholars website for more information.

 

Global Awareness | Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

1/20/14 – The Society of Women Engineers at SJSU has been hosting monthly events to promote Global Awareness about critical global topics during the year, led by SWE President Carissa Labriola (2013 Salzburg Scholar | Senior – Computer Engineering).  The group hosted a session on Human Rights Violations Against Women in October 2013, which included a showing of the video Half the Sky.  It also hosted a session on the Privatization of Water in November 2013, which included a talk on water issues in Brazil by a foreign exchange student and the distribution of reusable water bottles donated by Intel and the US Navy.  See the  SWE Website for more information.

 

Global Citizenship | Alumni Association

1/20/14 – Erin Enguero (2013 Salzburg Scholar | Junior – Kinesiology) gave a presentation on Global Citizenship to the Board of the SJSU Alumni Association last November (11/23/13), describing her experience at the Salzburg Global Seminar last summer and her projects this year to help globalize the university.
