Saturday’s Shooting in Monterey Park

My heart is heavy for the students, faculty and staff who are from Southern California, have families and friends in the area and are connected to communities there. Know that we are here for you.

Hello San José State

It is truly an honor for me to begin my tenure as president of San José State University today. I am so very appreciative of the warm welcome I received as I made my way onto campus and into Clark Hall this morning. Sammy Spartan was even waiting in the office when I arrived.

Celebrating Latinx Heritage Month at SJSU

Latinx Heritage Month, historically known as National Hispanic Heritage Month, is celebrated throughout the United States between September 15 and October 15. Several dates this month mark anniversaries of independence for Latin American countries – including Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua – which is why Latinx Heritage Month begins in mid-September. This history serves as a good reminder of the vast diversity of our Latinx community.
