San José State University is one of the best universities in America, according to Money magazine’s
2023 Best Colleges rankings released Thursday.

With the debut of a new scoring system, Money ranked SJSU 4.5 out of 5 stars — a high mark among the 736 colleges scored. Colleges were assessed on 26 factors that revolved around quality, affordability and outcomes for graduates.

“SJSU’s high grade in Money’s new rankings encapsulates our nationally recognized world-class education and invaluable experiential learning that leads to great careers,” said President Cynthia Teniente-Matson. “We firmly believe what happens in Silicon Valley changes the world and we are the university fueling Silicon Valley, and these Money rankings reaffirm this.”

SJSU also appeared on Money’s rankings for Best Public Colleges, Best Colleges in the West and Best Colleges with High Acceptance Rates. The university also remains Money magazine’s #1 Most Transformative University, an honor SJSU first received in 2020.

Money magazine said the following about SJSU: “At 71%, its graduation rate is 9% higher than predicted based on its student demographics, according to Money’s analysis. Like much of the California State University system, SJSU is regularly recognized for its accessibility, and it scores well on multiple measures of economic and social mobility.”

San José State is off to a strong start for rankings in 2023. Earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal featured SJSU in rankings regarding salaries for graduates — the #1 ranking for accounting, #2 for marketing, #4 for data science, #5 for engineering and #6 for software development
