SJSU is #2 Among Public Universities on WSJ List for High-Paying Jobs in Marketing

The Lucas College and Graduate School of Business shined again in a
Wall Street Journal (WSJ) ranking released on Tuesday, May 9, with SJSU ranking #2 among public universities in the country for marketing salaries for graduates.

According to WSJ, an SJSU marketing graduate earns over $22,000 more than the median graduate’s annual salary over the first 10 years of their career — bringing home an average salary of more than $115,000. Marketing graduates make up about 7% of SJSU’s annual graduates.

“This is another prestigious achievement for our graduates and college,” said Interim Dean of the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business Marco Pagani. “This WSJ ranking recognizes the quality of the education received by our marketing students, who are exposed to both the qualitative or behavioral aspect of marketing and the quantitative and data-driven aspects of marketing decisions. Our students benefit from significant experiential learning opportunities that provide the competencies relevant for their careers.”

The Bay Area is well represented at the top of the WSJ ranking, with Stanford University leading the overall list and University of California, Berkeley finishing just ahead of SJSU in the public university rankings. Five California schools are in the top 10 among public universities.

SJSU’s Department of Marketing and Business Analytics prepares students to pursue a career in a number of different areas — such as sales and promotion, marketing management and social media marketing — in any sector.

“This ranking is a testament to the amazing work our faculty is doing in keeping our curriculum current,” said Michael Merz, chair of the Department of Marketing and Business Analytics. “Our faculty members are dedicated to the success of our students, and it is nice that this is reflected in the WSJ ranking. I couldn’t be prouder of my faculty and our students.”

“All of our marketing and business analytics students benefit from the learning lab that is Silicon Valley,” says Heidi Livingston Eisips, faculty member within the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business Gary J. Sbona Honors Program. “Our graduates then apply this technical know-how and innovation mindset throughout California and the world.”

This is the second honor in a month that the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business has received from WSJ. In April, the college was recognized by WSJ as the #1 public university in the nation for accounting salaries for graduates. SJSU also ranked #4 among public universities in the country for salaries for data science graduates, #5 among public universities for salaries for engineering graduates and #6 among public universities for salaries for software developer graduates.
