Option 1: Navigating U.S. Immigration Pathways for International STEM Graduates

Student Union Meeting Room 2A | Presented by Immigration Attorneys Charina Garcia & Nate Grow of WR Immigration

Explore your options beyond graduation! This session will break down the self-sponsored visa routes available to international students, especially those in STEM fields or entrepreneurial ventures:

      • H-1B: Beyond the lottery – tips and strategies
      • O-1: For individuals with extraordinary ability (yes, it could be you!)
      • Startup Options: How to build your own path to a work visa
      • Green Cards (EB-1A & EB-2 NIW): What they are, who qualifies, and how to self-petition

Whether you’re job-hunting, researching, or founding your own startup, you’ll leave empowered with practical insights and real strategies.


Option 2: Curricular Practical Training (CPT) Work Authorization for International Students

Student Union Meeting Room 2B | Presented by Lena Meadows & Ranali Dewaraja, ISSS

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorizations permit international students to participate in internships, practicums or externships that are directly related to their major while continuing to enroll as a full time student, providing an opportunity to apply your academic learning in a practical setting and gain experience working for a U.S. employer prior to graduation. In this presentation, International Student Advisors from the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) office will explain the eligibility requirements for CPT and provide step-by-step guidance on the CPT application process.

Join this session to learn about building and maintaining your professional network. Learn how to create effective conversation starters, how to design your unique professional pitch (AKA elevator speech), and explore methods and tools to develop a strong career network.

Gearing up to Graduate: Alumni Panel

Graduating is exciting, but as an international student, finding a job after graduation can be stressful. This panel discussion is an opportunity to meet SJSU international alumni, who will share about their experience preparing for and beginning their professional life post-graduation. As recent graduates currently on OPT, they understand first-hand how challenging it can be to navigate the job search while also being mindful of immigration regulations. ISSS is pleased to partner with the Career Center to bring you this important and timely panel discussion.
