Theatre Arts lecturer NANCY CARLIN is directing an upcoming reading of the play “Dear Liar” at ACT—starring the great ANNETTE BENING, who of course is a four-time Oscar nominee for “The Grifters” (1990), “American Beauty” (1999), “Being Julia” (2004) and “The Kids Are All Right” (2010). The play is a dramatization of the famous correspondence between the playwright George Bernard Shaw and the actress Mrs. Patrick Campbell. Eleven-year-old Ella (Isabella Blake-Thomas) is a city girl forced to spend the summer on the New Mexico ranch of her reclusive grandmother, Violet Von Stern (Holland Taylor), while Ella’s mom (Kelly Lynch) undergoes chemotherapy in another state. As she tries to cope with her grandmother’s strict rules and snooty friends, Ella longs for her mother and begs her estranged father for rescue. But Ella’s dad (Sean Patrick Flanery) has his own reasons to stay away from his childhood home. Meanwhile, Ella finds allies in fatherly ranch hand Miguel (Steven Michael Quezada) and his down-to-earth daughter, Rosie (Esperanza Fermin). But when a priceless book is stolen from Violet’s collection, Miguel is the key suspect, and Ella must find the real thief in order to save her friends–not knowing that solving the crime will reveal other surprising truths and change all their lives forever.

Professor Amy Glazer’s New Film Will Premiere at the Mill Valley Film Festival in October
Professor Amy Glazer’s latest feature film, Kepler’s Dream, will be premiering at the Mill Valley Film Festival in the “Family Film” section.
Thepening screening is Oct. 7, 6:30PM at the Lark theater. Amy will be there for the Q&A that evening if you want to say hi.
Based on a children’s coming-of-age novel, the film stars Holland Taylor, Kelly Lynch, Sean Patrick Flanery, Kelly Hu, Steven Michael Quezada, David Hunt, Isabella Blake Thomas, and Stafford Douglas.

RTVF major TODD BANHAZL, who after graduating with honors went on to become the youngest person ever accepted to the American Film Institute Cinematography graduate program, wrote that he thinks back on his SJSU RTVF experience and training every day, and often quotes his professors. Todd has built a great career in cinematography: “All is good on my end. Just making movies and being a cinematographer.
