York Kennedy writes, ”
The project was The Cutting Ball Theatre’s “new translation of Samuel Gallet’s Communiqué N° 10. Gallet is a promising young French playwright who explores the tensions of the underclass in a city that is bursting at the seams. The play follows the journey of Hassan, a Muslim immigrant in a Western city, who tries to find out how his brother Lakdar was killed in the riots. Communiqué’s beautiful language and images are absolutely riveting.” It was an American premiere.Cutting Ball is a small but wonderful little company in San Francisco that focuses on classic Avant Garde works of the 20th century and works by contemporary playwrights that break the barriers of linear and narrative based theatre. Their artistic director, Rob Melrose is becoming a very prominent director on the American stage and currently has projects at The Guthrie and New York’s Public Theatre. I think he is pretty wonderful.”
