Two New Faculty Join COMM Dept!

Two new faculty have joined the Communication Studies Department!

Dr. Luis Felipe Gomez studies organizational learning and development through the social construction of time. He is developing the concept of temporal leadership, which involves promoting a future orientation through temporal framing and other organizational communication interventions. In his teaching, he strives to help students develop their critical thinking skills and relate the concepts and skills they are learning to their work and personal lives. Professor Gomez has taught organizational communication, intercultural communication, and quantitative inquiry at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Professor Gomez comes to SJSU from Texas State University, San Marcos, where he was an assistant professor. He earned his PhD in organizational communication from the University of Texas at Austin, his MBA in international finance and marketing from Katholieke Universiteit, Leuven, Belgium, and his BA in business administration from ITESM Campus San Luis. Dr. Tabitha Hart studies communication in organizational and business settings, both online and offline. In particular she is interested the links between culture, communication, and technology; the transfer of communication products across national boundaries; and customer service communication. Her most recent project examined the exchanges that took place on an interactive web-based platform that connected English language learners in China with trainers in the United States. In between degrees she worked as a language and communication trainer in Japan, the Czech Republic, and Germany. She holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Washington, an M.A. in Communication Studies from California State University, and a B.A. in Communication from the University of California, San Diego. COMM Major Named Influential Student

Communication Studies major Jeremiah Navarette was named one of SJSU’s most 55 influential students by the Associated Students. Congratulations Jeremiah!
