Customizing Your Blog
Basic Customizations
Note: Follow the Headers and Footers and Web Colors guidelines.
Your Widgets
These are the blocks that make up your sidebar. There are four areas where you can place widgets in the theme:
In the Sidebar
In the Footer
Labeled #1, #2 and #3 on your dashboard:
Note: There is a Text widget that includes the SJSU primary mark and university information. Do not remove this widget from the end of Footer #3.
Add widgets to your sidebar by going to Appearance > Widgets. Every newly created blog includes some default widgets. Add any widget(s) you like to the blog’s sidebar and footer.
Advanced Customizations
Adding Themes
You have the option to submit a custom-built or purchased theme to CampusPress for approval. CampusPress uses Git for managing code and all theme additions. Edits are submitted via BitBucket as pull requests. Visit CampusPress – Adding Themes for more information on how to submit a new theme. Read the guidelines carefully. CampusPress will review your theme for security and reliability before pushing live. You must register with BitBucket and collaborate with CampusPress on customization and edits.
For design consultation on your blog, contact Marketing and Communications. Need professional help? We’ll recommend a contractor for your design, editorial, photography and videography needs.
Plugins
View the list of available plugins. To activate a plugin go to Appearance > Plugins > All in your dashboard and click on activate below the plugin you want to use. If you don’t see plugins under the appearance tab, request a change to your user access.
The Power Source
SJSU Power Source: A Multi-Platform Communication Guide explains how to strengthen San Jose State’s identity by telling the stories of SJSU’s people, the source of the university’s “power.” It also outlines the words, imagery and university marks we use to express who we are and what we do—and what distinguishes SJSU from other universities.
How to tell your SJSU Story
