Presentation Title: The Research Lifecycle and The Librarian
Presenter(s): Irene Miller
Abstract: The Research Lifecycle and The Librarian is a blog designed to explore and describe the relationship between librarians and medical scientists conducting research. The process of taking an idea through the research lifecycle to produce a journal article or other publication is critical to researchers, universities, and science. Medical research involves several steps requiring the management of data and processes and is a critical component of evidence based medicine. Medical librarians have the knowledge and skill sets to provide support to researchers through all stages of the research lifecycle. Using a model of the research lifecycle developed at the University of Central Florida as a framework, this blog is designed to help both researchers and librarians understand where collaboration and partnership can best support research. The blog describes the roles that medical librarians play in supporting the research lifecycle and researchers in the health and medical sciences, including descriptions of different areas of librarian expertise and links to resources for researchers.

Irene, thank you for sharing your project! I love how you streamlined the research lifecycle into a more digestible model. I think this also speaks to the value of including information professionals to any research team. You demonstrated exactly how librarians can take complicated ideas and large volumes of information and help to present them in clearer ways!
Thank you, Joy! I really enjoyed researching about research!
Nice work Irene! It’s great to see you participate in the conference again!
Thank you, Lili! This is a great opportunity to showcase some of the interesting projects we get to do at the iSchool.
Hi Irene, thank you for your presentation and insights into your work from INFO 220. I love seeing the diversity in roles available to LIS professionals, and the various specialized paths open to them. Additionally, in my work with community college and university students so far, instilling in them an understanding of how research is conducted and published is so important for informing the research methods and processes for future scholars! “battling WordPress” 😀 I can relate.
Thanks, Ashley! Research really can be overwhelming. Though…maybe not as overwhelming as WordPress. Kidding. Mostly.
