Presentation Title: Implementing Acquisitions: From Spreadsheets to a New ILS

Presenter(s): Kayla Valdivieso

Abstract: Upon starting a new position at an academic library, I was tasked with creating new workflows for the acquisition of library materials. The existing workflows were performed using only a spreadsheet, making it difficult to track all our orders and payments in one place. However, upon the transition to a new integrated library system, there was an opportunity to reenvision the acquisitions processes. In this presentation, I will detail how I approached establishing new acquisitions workflows from scratch in a brand new ILS. I will discuss why a new process was needed and the steps we took to implement new workflows. The steps I will discuss include creating a budget structure, creating order and invoice records, automating processes when possible, and collaborating with other departments such as cataloging and electronic resource management to create a process that works for everyone involved.
