(San Jose, Calif.) — On Friday, September 12th, COMM Center faculty joined members of the Communication Studies Department and the Doyle family in the Spartan Memorial Chapel to mourn the loss of our dear colleague, Professor Shannon Doyle.
Professor Doyle was twice an alumna (B.A. & M.A.) of the Communication Studies department, a dedicated teacher, and an enthusiastic member of the COMM Center faculty, where she helped mentor upper-division COMM Center Coaches and all students enrolled in COMM 80 workshops. Her cheerful demeanor and easy smile will long be remembered as will her many contributions to the COMM Center and the Communication Studies Department.
Communication Studies Department Chair Dr. Deanna Fassett announced that the department will honor her memory by naming the study abroad scholarships after her. Professor Doyle was an avid world traveler, as well as a poet and scholar.

I’m shocked and saddened to hear of Professor Doyle’s passing. I knew her through working in the Comm Center and will never forget the impact she had on me. As a senior working on projects and assignments, I was often stressed or overwhelmed when I came into the Comm Center. Shannon was always cheerful, easy to talk to, and would brighten my day. She was one of a kind and she will be missed terribly!
