CASA transfer students: RSVP for orientation by Nov. 15

More than 1,000 students will be enrolling in San José State University as transfer students for the spring 2014 semester. San Jose faculty and staff will be hosting an orientation day to help students learn to navigate the campus and create a plan to reach their educational goals.

Students who will be transferring into San Jose State University have their choice of two mandatory orientation days, both with RSVP deadlines on Nov. 15. The Transfer orientation for students starting courses in Spring 2014 will be Dec. 10 and Jan. 17.

The mandatory orientation has a $70 fee. It will give students a chance to get acquainted with the campus and their home department or school. They can RSVP at http://nextsteps.sjsu.edu/spring.

Michelle Randle, the interim director of the College of Applied Sciences and Arts’ Student Success Center, said transfer students will have lunch at the Student Success Center where they will learn about the College and get acquainted with the services offered through SSC. She will also be coordinating with department and schools to set students up with advising sessions with a faculty advisor.

During the orientation day, various campus departments will be available to:

  • Discuss and explain key university services
  • Review what’s next before students start classes in the spring
  • Provide a General Education advising workshop
  • Explain SJSU Studies requirements (formerly Advanced GE) and preparation for the Writing Skills Test (WST)
  • Introduce students to their college and major department, where they will meet with major advisors
