The College of Applied Sciences and Arts’ Department of Health Science and Recreation will be hosting the 16th Annual Sexual Diversity Event April 21, from 5:30-8 p.m., in Barrett Ballroom in the Student Union.
The event, “Honoring LGBTQ Contributions: An Evening of Celebration,” will feature keynote speaker Ardel Haefele-Thomas, the LGBTQ Studies department chair at City College of San Francisco.
Haefele-Thomas has taught LGBT Studies at CCSF since 2005, according to her faculty website. She has a PhD from Stanford University in Modern Thought and Literature, where her interest was in 19th Century British Cultural Studies focusing on Empire and Sexuality. She is also interested in Gothic horror, multicultural issues and queer studiese.
Featured performers at the event will include the San Francisco Lesbian Gay Freedom Band, Spoken Word Artist Yosimar Reyes, Silicon Valley Gay Men’s Chorus and Flex Dance Company.
The event is sponsored by San José State University, the Master in Public Health Student Association, Social Work Student Association, Department of Health Science and Recreation and the Student Union, Inc.
