On April 21, 2012, alums representing the former and current departments of Women’s PE, Men’s PE, Human Performance, and Kinesiology gathered to celebrate 150 years of offering classes here on the west coast.
We believe we are the oldest department west of the Mississippi and possibly the oldest west of Ohio. We began before there was a transcontinental railroad and our founding instructor, Mademoiselle Adele Parot, came to us from France, by way of Boston. Who knows how she travelled here–by the overland route or the ocean route around Cape Horn.
The oldest alum present was from the class of 1942 and is pretty active! Many current students volunteered their time, as did faculty and staff.
For a quick view of the day, check out the video filmed by KIN student Brittany Manrubia.
Great video. What a wonderful heritage to share with new students!
