Start your preparation as an undergraduate! If you are working toward a Bachelor of Arts degree in science, consider choosing to minor in science education. For 12 units, our program will allow you to take courses that will actually count toward a secondary science teaching credential, and that means you could become a secondary science teacher in the State of California in as little as one year! We offer courses that will give you hands-on experience to help you become an effective science teacher.

SJSU’s Science Education Program offers a top notch science preparation program that has been approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. We work with the SJSU Secondary Education Program to help you specialize your teaching science.

Program Features:

–          A Methods course that prepares you to teach science in accordance with the Next Generation Science standards.

–          A Yearlong placement option for your student teaching experience

–          We prepare you for the Performance Assessment for California Teachers (PACT)

–          Faculty with educational research expertise will share you the latest research to guide your teaching practice and help you become an effective science teacher

–          You can count up to 12 units of you credential work toward our Masters of Arts degree.

We offer a flexible program of study that offers a selection of courses in science education, secondary education and science specialty areas. This allows you to tailor the program to fit your needs.

The Program Features:

– 30 units degree program

– We accept 12 units from CTC approved science teaching credential programs

– Only two required core courses, the rest you select to create an experience that works for you career needs

– Collaboration with professors on research projects

– Completion of a Masters project, where you might do meaningful research or create new curriculum materials that will help you grow as a teacher

– Evening classes to allow you to work on this degree as you teach
