Admitted Spartan Day 2011

The Student Outreach and Recruitment Office (aptly abbreviated SOAR) needs your help April 16, when SJSU opens campus to thousands of prospective freshmen and transfers for Admitted Spartan Day.

“This event is the perfect opportunity to welcome and introduce our newly admitted students and their families to our beautiful campus,” said Deanna Gonzales, director of the Office of Admissions and Outreach. “Thank you in advance for your participation in making this year’s ASD the very best.”

SJSU provisionally admitted 16,500 first-time freshmen and 7,500 transfer students for fall 2011. Here are two ways students, faculty and staff can help:

Individuals can volunteer to assist SOAR on the day of the event. Although doors open at 8 a.m., help is needed as early as 6 a.m. Work a two-hour shift and receive a free t-shirt. For more info, call (408) 924-2564 or email asd2011volunteers@gmail.com. The application deadline is April 2.

Campus services and organizations can help new students and families learn about SJSU’s many resources by participating in the Campus Life and Resource Fair. For more info, contact SOAR Manager Eileen Daley at (408) 924-2124 or eileen.daley@sjsu.edu.

“We want new students to hit the ground running in terms of knowing what our campus has to offer,” Daley said. “The resource fair helps put a face to a name and really personalize each student’s experience.”

A recent SOAR recruit herself, having moved over from South Campus where she served as assistant athletic director for academics, Daley made a promise she’s bound to keep.

“Sammy the Spartan will be there!” she said.#
