Charles Abrahamson, ’54 Marketing, age 89, on Jan. 20, in Glendora. A U.S. Navy and World War II veteran, Abrahamson was 3M Company’s senior sales/marketing manager for the western states.
Nancy Alvarez, ’86 Kinesiology, age 53, on Feb. 11, in Los Altos Hills. A member of the National Pharmacy Technician Association (NPTA) since 2000, Alvarez was a part-time faculty member in Foothill College’s Pharmacy Technician Program. As a student at Foothill College, she threw the javelin and competed in the Sacramento State Trials two years in a row.
Anthony Anastasi, ’37 Sociology, age 97, on Sept. 16, 2014. A native of Boston, Mass., and a U.S. Army veteran, Anastasi received a law degree from Stanford in 1940 and practiced as a business and labor law attorney in downtown San Jose. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Sainte Clare Club.
Michael Angelastro, ’74, age 70, on Jan. 19, in Utah. A New York native and U.S. Air Force veteran, Angelastro held positions at National Semiconductor and American Express during his career.
Dirick Arrowsmith, ’47 Business, age 89, on April 7, in Yuba City. A New Jersey native and World War II veteran, Arrowsmith worked in advertising before taking over the family business, Western Farm Chemical Company. He served on the board of directors of Fremont Medical Center and as president of Yuba City’s Rotary Club. He was also a member of the Yuba Sutter Aero Squadron and chaired Yuba City’s United Way fundraising drive.
Anita Jacobson Arthur, ’44, age 88, on Nov. 28, 2014, in Capitola. A native of Houston, Texas, Arthur was a veteran of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. A founding member of Family Service Auxiliary in San Jose, she received the Civitan Club Distinguished Citizen Award in 1960 and became a Bridge Silver Life Master in 2008.
Michael Bailey, ’85 Aeronautics, age 59, on Feb. 23, in Whittier. A pilot who served with the Mojave Desert Civil Patrol, Bailey worked as a programmer at Northrop Corporation and GNP Computers. From 2006 until his 2013 retirement, he was an information systems support assistant with the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Lillian Baker, ’51 Education, age 85, on Jan. 2, in Petaluma. Baker worked as a substitute teacher for pre-school through eighth grade classes before her 1998 retirement.
Louis Balbi, ’51 Business Administration, age 87, on Dec. 9, 2014, in El Dorado Hills. A San Francisco native and U.S. Navy veteran, Balbi worked as an accountant.

Frank Benaderet, Public Administration, age 77, on March 3, in San Rafael. Benaderet joined the Palo Alto Police Department in 1963 and became one of the youngest police chiefs in the state, first serving as Pinole’s chief of police and later as San Rafael’s chief of police. He also taught criminal justice courses at Golden Gate University.
George Bergna, ’50 Physical Education, age 87, on Jan. 1, in Santa Cruz. A U.S. Navy veteran, Bergna worked as a coach, teacher and administrator in the Santa Clara Unified School District. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Capitola.

Louise Bilicich, ’44 Physical Education, age 91, on Sept. 14, 2014, in Watsonville. A native of San Francisco, Bilicich taught physical education at Watsonville High School for 38 years. She retired in 1983. She was a member of the Watsonville Woman’s Club, the Young Ladies Institute (YLI) and Soroptimist International.

Charles Black, ’64 Electrical Engineering, age 81, on Dec. 15, 2014. A U.S. Navy veteran, Black’s career with Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in Sunnyvale spanned three decades. He retired in 1992.

Warren Brady, ’46 Journalism, age 90, on March 13, in Los Gatos. Editor of The Spartan Daily and “King of Spardi Gras” while at SJSU, Brady worked for PG&E for 20 years and later as a real estate appraiser.

Clyde Brewer, age 73, on March 20, in Burnet, Texas. A Texas native, Brewer began his career in education administration in Calgary, Alberta. In 1971, he became director of Records and Admissions at SJSU. As the university’s articulation officer, he developed the first official website detailing equivalent course transfers from California community colleges to SJSU. He retired in 2007.
Gale Bruce, ’55 Art, age 86, on Feb. 18, in Galt. A U.S. Army and Korean War veteran, Bruce continued to serve in the Army Active Reserve with the 351st Civil Affairs unit for 22 years. For 32 years, he taught art classes and developed interactive exhibits for children at the Palo Alto Junior Museum.
Frederick Burbank, ’51 Journalism, age 87, on Dec. 2, 2014, in San Mateo. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and U.S. Army veteran, Burbank was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity.
Tom Bush, ’71 Library Science, age 65, on Nov. 29, 2014, in Capitola. A native of Santa Barbara, Bush served in the Scotts Valley Police Department for 29 years. He started as a reserve police officer in 1973, became the department’s first full-time detective in 1975 and was appointed chief of police in 2001.

Inez Cahoone, ’38 Education, age 98, on Oct. 25, 2014, in Fair Oaks. A native of Myrtle, Idaho, Cahoone taught in the San Juan Unified School District in Carmichael for 38 years.
Marjorie Callow, ’51 Education, age 85, on Nov. 18, 2014, in Newark, Calif. Callow lived her entire life in Newark and taught for 45 years at Muller, Kennedy and Musick schools. Keenly interested in local history, she served as a docent at Patterson House and at Ardenwood Historic Farm.
Drusilla Campbell, ’62 English, age 74, on Oct. 28, 2014, in Bay Park. A native of Melbourne, Australia, Campbell moved to San Diego in 1976 and started a writing career, publishing 17 novels, including Blood Orange and The Good Sister.
Lu Campbell, ’56 Interior Design, age 82, on Jan. 26, in Laguna Beach. A native of Whittier, Campbell’s ceramic work and paintings were showcased at Laguna Beach’s Festival of Arts. She was a signature member and board member of the National Watercolor Society and served on Laguna Beach’s original Board of Adjustment/Design Review Board.

Raymond Capella, ’52, in January. A U.S. Coast Guard and World War II veteran, Capella also served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve during the Korean War. A member of the San Mateo Elks #1161 for 32 years, he retired in 1985 as a lieutenant in the San Francisco Fire Department.
Ruth Morgan Carlson, ’37 Education, age 99, on Oct. 12, 2014, in Sacramento. A native of Berkeley, Carlson taught for 25 years in the Sacramento area. She was a member of Trinity Cathedral Episcopal Church and the Sisters of Transfiguration.
Glen Chittenden, ’50 Business Administration, age 89, on Nov. 5, 2014, in Penn Valley. A Kansas native and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Chittenden was a combat photographer and served in the Battle of Okinawa. He worked at UARCO Business Forms in Emeryville and, later, at Gerber Products.

Lillian Cincone, MA Social Science, age 89, on March 16, in Palo Alto. A native of Germany, Cincone held several leadership positions in the National Organization for Women, co-founded the International Women’s Studies Institute and worked at San Francisco’s Global Fund for Women offices until her retirement at age 84.
George Coles, ’44 Psychology, age 92, on Jan. 20, in Point Richmond. A U.S. Army and World War II veteran, Coles served as a medic in the Pacific Theater during the war. He taught at Contra Costa Community College and, after receiving a master’s degree in anthropology from UC Berkeley, opened an archaeological laboratory. A founding member of the California Society for Archaeology, he helped to form the California Native American Commission and drafted legislation to protect Native American archaeological sites in the state.
Sara Condie, Business, age 92, on Aug. 18, 2014, in Wilder, Vt. A native of Ohio, Condie worked as an assistant at Stanford University’s Center for Advanced Studies and, later, as a real estate broker.
John Corrigan Jr., Business, age 71, on Feb. 5, in Watsonville. A native of Minneapolis, Minn., Corrigan grew up in Watsonville and returned with his family in 1988. He worked as a produce salesman for many years and founded Corrigan’s Christmas Trees in 1992.
Marlene Hertel Crozier, ’54 Education, on Feb. 25. A native of Ventura, Crozier taught elementary school in Palo Alto before marriage. With her husband, she co-founded the Kern County Junior Golf Association.
Vincent Cucuzza, ’52 MS Chemistry, age 94, on Oct. 8, 2014, in San Jose. A U.S. Navy and World War II veteran, Cucuzza taught chemistry at Santa Rosa Junior College before his retirement.

Evaline Curti, ’45 Music, age 91, on March 9. A native of Modesto, Curti began her 29-year teaching career in the farming community of Wasco and retired from Del Mar Elementary School in 1982. A member of Phi Mu National Music Honor Society, she was past president of St. Joseph’s Altar Society.

Norma DeSalles, ’50 Education, age 86, on Dec. 6, 2014, in Fremont. DeSalles’s 35-year-career as an elementary teacher included posts at Alvarado Elementary School and Pioneer Elementary School. She retired in 1988.
Guadalupe Diaz, ’05 MA Instructional Technology, age 68, on April 17, in San Jose. A native of Mexico, Diaz taught at Cupertino High School and, beginning in 1983, at Piedmont Hills High School in San Jose. She was a South Bay Musical Theater volunteer, serving at various times as costumer and spotlight operator.

Ed Dickinson, Business, age 88, in October 2014. A U.S. Marine Corps and World War II veteran, Dickinson hosted “Way Back Now” on Monterey’s KIDD Magic 63, a radio program that featured big band music. To the delight of his listeners, he interviewed the Carmel-based actress Doris Day each year on her birthday. He retired in 2012.
Kathleen Ann DiZio, ’87 MA Biological Science, age 65, on Feb. 28, in Elk Grove. A native of Oregon, DiZio worked as a senior toxicologist until 2012.

Tom Edgar, ’71 Sociology, age 67, on March 7, in San Jose. A native of Palo Alto, Edgar taught school in Chile during the 1970s and later worked as a human resources representative at several Silicon Valley companies.
Peter Edmondson, ’52 Advertising, age 90, on Oct. 26, 2014, in Woodside. A native of Santa Barbara and U.S. Army veteran, Edmondson retired from his first career in newspaper advertising in 1985 to found Faucet Flower Company, a firm that manufactured bronze faucet handles and rain chains. A lifelong squash enthusiast, he played football and ran track at SJSU.

Angela Ernstrom, ’50 Education, age 85, on Jan. 30, in Los Gatos. A native of San Jose, Ernstrom taught second grade in Santa Clara County for many years. An active member of St. Mary’s Parish in Los Gatos, she taught reading at St. Mary’s School until her 2008 retirement.
Ona Hardy Evers, ’38 Drama, age 98, on Jan. 3. An award-winning watercolorist and descendant of the Higueras, owners of one of the original 25 Spanish land grants in California, Evers wrote and directed the play Dark Tide while a student at SJSU.
Robert Fahey, ’68 Mechancial Engineering, age 70, on Feb. 6, in El Sobrante. A native of Richmond, Calif., Fahey was a mechanical engineer at Mare Island Naval Shipyard for 30 years. A gun enthusiast, he was a range master and member of the Richmond Rod and Gun Club board of directors. His family helped found the St. Callistus Catholic Church El Sobrante Parish.
Denise Fantone, ’75 MLS, age 63, on Jan. 8, in Washington, D.C. Fantone moved to Washington in 1978 and first worked as a presidential management intern at the Department of Justice. Later in her career she served as the budget director and assistant inspector general of the Peace Corps. In 2011, she retired as the director of strategic issues in the U.S. Government Accountability Office. She was a docent at the Folger Shakespeare Library and the National Arboretum’s bonsai garden.
Ron Farnetti, ’69 MBA, age 75, on June 7, 2014. Farnetti worked as an auditor for the state of California for more than 40 years and sang in a Doo-Wop group.
Coralie Fellows, ’50 Speech Communication, age 86, on April 18, 2014, in Rancho Bernardo. A native of San Jose, Fellows was a fourth-generation Californian.
Lester Ferguson, ’50 Electrical Engineering, on Nov. 27, 2013. A magnetic tape recording pioneer, Ferguson worked at Quement Electronics and as a test engineer at Sylvania’s Electronic Defense Laboratory in Mountain View early in his career. In 1966, he joined the startup ESL, retiring from the company in 1989 as special assistant to the president.
Carmendale Fernandes, ’63, age 90, on Oct. 15, 2014. A Turlock native, Fernandes taught school in Sunnyvale from 1946 to 1988. A past president of the National Forensics League, she was inducted into that organization’s Hall of Fame as well as the California High School Speech Association’s Hall of Fame.

Daniel Fitch, Management, age 62, on March 13, in Prunedale. A native of Albuquerque, N.M., Fitch worked as a DMV manager for 35 years.
Edward Fleming, ’57 Business Administration, age 82, on Dec. 3, 2014, in Los Altos. A native of San Francisco and U.S. Navy veteran, Fleming served in the Korean War. He founded two businesses, E. J. Fleming and Associates and the Polenta Company, and was an active member of St. William Parish.
Charles Fraley, ’77 Accounting, age 62, on Jan. 24, in Lexington, Ky. A U.S. Marine Corps and Vietnam War veteran, Fraley worked in the mortgage banking industry. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and a Resurrection Parish youth ministries volunteer.
Elaine Frank, ’59 Education, age 77, on Jan. 16, in Petaluma. A native of Santa Clara, Frank served as the first kindergarten teacher at Two Rock School in Petaluma. After raising her family, she returned to work as a classroom aide at Petaluma’s McKinley Elementary School and McDowell Elementary School.

Catherine Hershey Fruth, Home Economics, age 91, on March 15, in Palo Alto. A native of Indianola, Iowa, Fruth lived 57 years in Palo Alto and served as chapter president of the American Association of University Women. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and taught children with learning disabilities for more than a decade.

Gattuccio-Collins worked for 42 years as a speech/language specialist with the Butte County Office of Education and Chico Unified School District. She was a member of Chico Elks Lodge #423, the Sons of Italy and the Republican Women’s Foundation.
Jamshid Ghardashem, Civil Engineering, age 75, on March 5, in Turlock. A native of Iran, Ghardashem helped to plan and construct schools, airports and prisons throughout California. Before making Turlock his final home, he and his family lived for more than a decade in Lisbon, Portugal.

Carol Green, ’57 Psychology, age 82, on Oct. 16, 2014, in Fresno. A San Jose native and U.S. Air Force veteran, Green was a founding member of the Fresno chapter of the California Association for Neurologically Handicapped Children. She was a group counselor at Fresno County Juvenile Hall for 22 years and retired in 1994.
Betty Greenley, ’39 Education, age 96, on Jan. 25, in Stockton. A member of Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority, Greenley’s first teaching job was in Weed, Calif. Later she served as a Girl Scout leader and active member of the Campbell Women’s Club. After moving to Aptos with her family in 1970, she served as a deacon for nine years at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church.
Cornelius “Jack” Groves, ’47 English, age 94, on Jan. 25. A native of Casper, Wyo., Groves was a U.S. Army and World War II veteran who served in the Philippines and retired from the military as a first lieutenant. As a civilian, he began his career in education as a teacher at Merced High School in 1948. He retired in 1981 as principal of Atwater High School in the Merced Union High School District.
Catherine Gunther, ’39 Business Administration, age 97, on Sept. 17, 2014, in Issaquah, Wash. A native of San Jose, Gunther served as treasurer of her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega. She retired as an executive secretary at Wells Fargo in 1973 after 33 years of service.

Arthur Hardin, ’61 Industrial and Systems Engineering, age 76, on April 18, in Merced. A veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, Hardin farmed almonds in Merced County and was a member of the Odd Fellows.

Susan Harju, ’81 Accounting, age 56, on Sept. 17, 2014, in Green Bay, Wis. A native of Seattle, Wash., Harju was treasurer of the Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity at SJSU and vice president of Kappa Delta sorority. She worked as an accounting manager and CFO in Green Bay, retiring from a corporate career in 2010 to purchase and operate The Urban Frog, a health food restaurant. In 1990, she sang at Carnegie Hall as a member of the Dudley Birder Chorale.

Lea Ann Hernandez, ’67 Advertising, age 70, on April 10. Hernandez worked as a flight attendant for World Airways before becoming a realtor in Saratoga, Calif. She also helped run her family’s business, the Saratoga Oaks Lodge, and served on the board of the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce.
Luis Hernandez, ’77 Corrections, age 75, on Sept. 21, 2014, in Los Gatos. A native of Brady, Texas, Hernandez served for 30 years in the San Jose Police Department, retiring as deputy chief in 1993.
Thomas Hessler, ’62 Industrial Technology, age 75, on April 9, in Carmichael. An Oregon native and U.S. Army veteran, during his career Hessler worked for PG&E and Wismer & Becker Construction Company. He also oversaw part of the San Francisco Airport International Terminal expansion. A member of the Hangtown Hikers, he played jazz piano and published The Caucasus, A Novel (CreateSpace) in 2011.
Ann Hoehmann, ’75 Interior Design, on April 10, in Los Gatos. A native of Kansas City, Mo., Hoehmann owned Ann Hoehmann Interiors and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Gary Hoffman, ’67 Accounting, age 69, on Oct. 12, 2014, in San Jose. A native of Detroit, Mich., Hoffman worked for the Defense Contract Audit Agency for 37 years.
Patricia Holsten, ’46 Education, age 90, on March 4, in Belmont. Holstein worked in San Mateo schools from 1946 to 1980, teaching for 10 years and serving as principal for 24 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Educational Society, the San Mateo Women’s Golf Club and the Knights of Malta.

William Hunter, ’51 Education, age 85, on March 21, in Belmont. A native of Hawaii and U.S. Air Force veteran, Hunter taught business classes at South San Francisco High School for 30 years.
Henry Hurst, ’64 Psychology, age 73, on March 1, in Port Ludlow, Wash. A native of New Roads, La., Hurst was a member of Tau Delta Phi fraternity and worked as a professional musician in San Francisco during the early 1970s. He returned to his hometown in 1984 and opened Bee Hive Natural Foods. Until his death, he worked as a videographer.
Michael Irving, ’57 Criminal Justice Administration, age 86, on Feb. 22, in San Jose. A U.S. Army and Korean War veteran, Irving worked in Santa Clara County’s Department of Juvenile Probation, serving as superintendent of James Ranch, Holden Ranch and the Muriel Wright Center. He was a founding member of the Scales of Justice Lions Club.
Edmund Jacobs, ’50 Physical Science, age 90, on Jan. 28. A U.S. Navy and World War II veteran, Jacobs earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine. He retired from the Navy in 1975 after 33 years of service. His final duty station was the Naval Air Systems Command in Washington, D.C.

Susan Johansson, ’66 Elementary Education, age 70, on Oct. 26, 2014. A San Diego native, Johansson retired in 2005 from a 30-year teaching career, 20 of those years spent in the Rio School District in Oxnard.
Marie “Mary Lou” Johns, ’50 Education, age 86, on Feb. 24, in Pacific Grove. A native of Reno, Nev., Johns began her teaching career at Modesto Elementary School. After relocating to the Monterey Peninsula, she taught for 28 years at Del Rey Woods Elementary School. She retired in 1989.
Paul Johnson, ’66 Psychology, age 80, on April 12, in San Jose. An Oklahoma native and U.S. Navy veteran, Johnson worked for Lockheed Missiles and Space Company for 40 years, retiring as a Special Programs I engineer.
Gerald Kanter, ’74 Management, on Nov. 7, 2014, in Santa Clara. A native of San Francisco, Kanter was an Owens Corning employee for 37 years. He retired as the plant environmental engineer at the company’s Santa Clara facility in 2000.
Lloyd Wallace Keiley, ’58 Finance, age 83, on Dec. 30, 2014, in Edmonds, Wash. Keiley taught at Mountlake Terrace High School until his 1986 retirement.
Cynthia Brown Kelly, ’55 Education, age 81, on March 31, in San Francisco. A native of San Francisco and sister of Gov. Jerry Brown, Kelly taught school in Daly City early in her career and served on the board of the Modern Art Council, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Chris Kenison, ’69 BA, ’70 MA, Industrial Arts, age 69, on Feb. 13. A native of Georgia, Kenison moved to Oklahoma as a child and received his first undergraduate degree in engineering from the University of Oklahoma. For more than four decades, he taught math and industrial arts in the Fremont Union High School District. He also served for eight years in the U.S. Army Reserve.
Perry Kneisel, ’68 Business Administration, age 68, on Nov. 24, 2014, in Redondo Beach. A U.S. Army and Vietnam War veteran, Kneisel worked as a materiel manager at Hughes-Raytheon until his 2005 retirement.

Roy Krumland, ’49 Business Administration, age 89, on Jan. 31, in Antioch. A U.S. Army and World War II veteran, Krumland was part of the occupation troops in Japan and received a Bronze Star for his service. He retired from Brentwood’s Liberty Union High School in 1986 after a 37-year career in education.
Keith Lampson, ’51 Business Administration, age 87, on Feb. 8, in Santa Rosa. A U.S. Navy and Korean War veteran, after the war Lampson returned to his hometown of Geyserville to work at Lampson Tractor Company, the family business. A member of the Geyserville Chamber of Commerce and the Geyserville Christian Church, he also served as past president of the Santa Rosa Ski Club.
Eileen Higgins Lancaster, ’51 Business Administration, age 85, on March 21, in Cypress, Texas. A native of Watsonville, Lancaster worked for United Airlines and later as a teacher in Lafayette, La. A member of the Sew-Bees quilting circle, she made more than 70 quilts for friends and family and won four gold swimming medals in the Southwest Louisiana District Senior Games a few months shy of her 80th birthday.
Arnold Levine, ’58 MA Biological Science, age 91, on April 16, in Santa Cruz. Levine’s career in education included teaching at Branciforte Elementary and Junior High Schools and serving as principal of Harbor High School. He retired from Santa Cruz City Schools in 1981, served two terms on the Santa Cruz City Council and, for 28 years, served on the Santa Cruz County Board of Education, retiring as president of the board in 2013.

William McEnroe, ’49 Art/Theatre, age 93, on Jan. 25, in Olympia, Wash. A World War II veteran, McEnroe received a master’s degree in art from Stanford. Recruited to teach at Ventura College, he continued to teach watercolor, art history and scene design at the college for more than 30 years and also served as founding director of the New Media Gallery. He retired in 1982.

He worked in medical research at the City of Hope Research Hospital in Duarte, Calif., before embarking on a 17-year teaching career in Kings County. He retired in 2006. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served on a church mission to Chile in the 1960s.

Ronald Zils, ’62 Management, age 80, on Feb. 8. A jazz lover, Zils played drums and began performing in clubs at age 12. After a 30-year career in sales at IBM, he retired to Twain Harte.
Faculty
Irene Dalis, age 89, on Dec. 14, 2014, in San Jose. An international mezzo-soprano opera star and founder of Opera San Jose, Dalis was born in San Jose and graduated from SJSU with a music degree in 1946. She made her professional debut in 1953 as Princess Eboli in Verdi’s Don Carlo. After 20 seasons performing with the New York Opera Company, she returned to her hometown and joined SJSU’s music faculty as a professor. She received tenure in 1978 and retired in 2004. “She was a true diva,” said her friend Andrew Bales, president of Symphony Silicon Valley. “Yet for those of us lucky enough to know her, she was also sweet-hearted and as loving as could be.”
Julianne Dutcher, age 79, on July 22, 2014, in Yachats, Ore. A native of Hartford, Conn., Dutcher received her undergraduate decree from Skidmore College and her master’s degree from the University of Connecticut in 1959. In 1978, she joined SJSU’s Department of Health Professions, now the Department of Nutrition, Food Science and Packaging, and was promoted to associate professor in 1989. She retired in 1992 and moved to Yachats, where she cooked meals for the homeless and served as a Little Log Church docent.
James Lovera, age 94, on Jan. 4. A ceramist and founding member of the Association of Clay and Glass Artists of California, Lovera was a graduate of the California School of Fine Arts. For 38 years he taught in the Department of Art, promoted to professor in 1969. In 1986, he retired from teaching and moved to California’s Gold Country, where he built and designed a house and pottery studio inspired by his love of Asian art.
John Rhoades, age 92, on Oct. 11, 2014, in Campbell. A North Dakota native, Rhoades received his master’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1947 and his doctorate from the University of North Dakota in 1958. He joined the Department of Biology and Science Education in 1956 and was promoted to full professor in 1967. For two years he supervised Peace Corps volunteers who were teaching science in the Philippines. He retired from teaching in 1990.
Arthur Stump, age 97, on Feb. 1, in Eugene, Ore. A native of Monmouth, Ore., Stump received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Oregon State University, earning his doctorate in 1963. He joined the Department of Chemistry in 1964 and retired in 1980 at the rank of professor.
Thomas Tutko, age 83, on Nov. 6, 2014, in Aptos. A native of Gallitzin, Pa., Tutko received his master’s degree and doctorate from Northwestern University. He joined the Department of Psychology in 1962 and was promoted to full professor in 1969. He retired in 1999. During his career, he lectured throughout the U.S., appeared on “The Tonight Show” with Johnny Carson and counseled athletes on such teams as the San Francisco 49ers and the Miami Dolphins.
Dominique Marie van Hooff, age 65, on Oct. 30, 2014, in Stanford. A native of Besançon, France, van Hooff received her undergraduate degree from the University of Besançon and her master’s degree and doctorate from Brigham Young University. A French literature scholar, she joined the Department of World Languages and Literature in 1989 and was promoted to full professor in 2000. She served as chair of the department from 2003 to 2012.
