Spartan Heritage: Celebrating 150 Years in San José

Throughout San José State’s more than 160-year history, from a small Normal School focused on preparing teachers who educated a young California to a dynamic comprehensive university in the capital of global innovation, we have adapted and evolved to meet the needs of our students and our region.

On Heritage Day 2020, the anniversary of the university’s move from San Francisco to San José, the campus celebrated 150 years of community connections that have shaped our world.
