Geology Professor Donald L. Reed

Nominated by Wu-Cheng Chi, ’95 MS Geology

It is rare to know in advance how your advisor will change your life. I met Professor Don Reed in 1992 when I became his first master’s degree student. During that time, I learned many important problem-solving skills from his classes. He also let us experience the excitement of making scientific discoveries. It was a blast working with him.

Most of all, he takes a genuine interest in his students. I still go back to him when the outside world gets tough. At the same time, he worked me so hard that there were more than 30 iterations when I was writing my thesis. I know that such a teacher is a treasure for a student, because I now have become a professor, too.
