For more than 160 years, San Jose State’s people have used what powers them to make the world a better place. Long before the university began “powering Silicon Valley,” it was the founding campus of the California State University system, a Normal School that trained teachers who set out to educate the pioneering people of a young California. San Jose State has continued to adapt through earthquakes, population growth, the Great Depression, globalization and the rising cost of public higher education. SJSU’s story is about grit, smarts and hard work.
It is the story of Spartans.
Washington Square is where we share our stories.
Printed twice a year and mailed to 80,000+ print readers, Washington Square is produced by SJSU’s Office of Strategic Communications and Marketing within the Division of University Advancement.
