The book started out a bit slow for me, but later I couldn’t put it down. I would hope that the students would stick with the first part and not stop reading. Overall I would say it meets the engaging criterion. There are lots of opportunities with this book to talk about what is fact and what is fiction and discuss US history. It could provide opportunities to engage with many of the ethnic studies programs on campus to talk about the experience of coming to this country. It could also provide opportunities for interesting writing, poetry, music, and other forms of artistic expression.
