Marco Meniketti Wins Award by SHA and the Dender and Minority Affairs Committee
Marco Meniketti (Anthropology) wins first place in the GMAC Diversity Field School Competition. This was awarded by the Society for Historical Archaeology, Gender and Minority Affairs Committee, during the Conference in New Orleans on January 10. The award acknowledges archaeological field schools that incorporate diversity in archaeological practices, and research and show outstanding commitment to diversity in student participation. The SJSU Nevis Heritage Landscape Project was also recognized for its dedication to diversity and inclusion of student participation.
Rick Kos Publishes Report on Viva CalleSJ and Provides Recommendations on how to Maximize Social, Economic, and Environmental Benefits
The Viva CalleSJ event on September 8, 2024, transformed six miles of San Jose streets into car-free zones, promoting active transportation, community engagement, and local business support. Authored by Rick Kos, (Urban & Regional Planning) the report highlights the event’s success in fostering community connections and economic benefits, with 76% of attendees feeling more connected and 80.4% discovering local businesses. Recommendations aim to enhance future events in line with San Jose’s mobility and community goals.
