2/26/14 @ AS House – Nominations are being accepted by Associated Students for the 2014 AS 55 Awards.  These awards are an annual opportunity to honor and recognize the unsung heroes and leaders of San Jose State University – those students who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to SJSU and have continually given back to the campus community.  Nominations can be made fellow students, faculty, staff, administrators and community members.  Up to 55 students are chosen by a selection committee and then celebrated at the annual Student Leadership Gala awards ceremony (4/24/14).  Contact the AS Website for more information, as well as the attached flyer/nomination form.

 

 

Congressional Internship | Panetta Institute (Washington, DC)

2/20/14 @ 4:00 PM – Applications are due from exceptional SJSU students to serve as the university’s Panetta Congressional Intern in Washington, DC during the Fall 2014 semester, sponsored by the Panetta Institute for Public Policy at CSU-Monterey Bay.  One of the most prestigious opportunities available to students at SJSU and other CSU campuses, this fully-paid internship provides selected students with an intensive two-week training course on the workings of the U.S. Congress and then sends them to the nation’s capital for 11 weeks of service with a California member of the US House of Representatives.  While in Washington, you will attend special seminars with government leaders, journalists and policy experts.  See the attached flyer or explore the Panetta Institute Website for more information about this program.  Contact Dr. Jan English-Lueck (Associate Dean | SJSU’s College of Social Sciences) for specific questions regarding application for this opportunity.

 

MCOM 180 | Global Leadership (Paris and Madrid)

6/16-7/11/2014 – Matt Cabot (2009 Salzburg Fellow | Journalism & Mass Communications) is leading his fourth consecutive summer study abroad program in Europe.  MCOM 180 is a 6-unit | four-week course on Global Leadership that is designed to help prepare students to live and work in an increasingly “globalized” world.  Visits to some of Europe’s top strategic communication firms, class lectures, and variety of cultural activities will introduce students to the kind of “global mindset” necessary to think, act, and lead globally.  For more information, visit the Study Abroad MCOM 180 information page  or view a brief promo video.  Contact Dr. Cabot with specific questions.

Service-Learning Tutorship | Lingnan University (Hong Kong)

2/28/14 @ 5:00 PM – Applications are due for Visiting Service-Learning Tutorships at Lingnan University (Hong Kong) for 2014-2015.  Successful applicants can have a degree in any discipline but should have direct experience in some type of service-learning program, as well as a particular interest in Asia in general and Hong Kong in specific.  This is a paid year-long appointment with fixed monthly salary, and all Visiting Tutors are provided with a small apartment on campus.  The university provides fringe benefits, including annual leave, medical and dental benefits, and a mandatory provident fund.  It will also provide assistance in obtaining a valid entry visa from the Hong Kong Immigration Department.  Visit theProgram Website for application forms and general information or contact Ms. Chloe Siu for assistance.
