As SJSU celebrates and honors its spring and summer graduates this week, we now do so with very heavy hearts. Our campus community feels deep sorrow, grief and anger on behalf of the innocent victims and loved ones killed in yesterday’s shooting tragedy in Uvalde, Texas.

Waving the Spartan Flag
It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly three months since I joined San José State University as interim president. As I’ve very much enjoyed listening to members of our campus community and learning about this incredible university, it feels like a great time to offer a report of sorts on what I’ve observed.

For the third year in a row, we are being invited to participate in the City of San José’s annual Resident Satisfaction Survey. I hope you’ll join me in taking this survey, as it exemplifies our role as an engaged partner in San José.
SJSU Mask Guidance Update
Ever since the start of the pandemic, we’ve all looked forward to a day when a more normal way of life will return. Our resumption of in-person classes last month was made possible because we remained careful and prudent. Today, I’m asking for your patience. Although Santa Clara County is discontinuing its indoor mask requirement, we will keep ours in effect until further notice.
In-person commencement ceremonies planned for spring semester!
As students return to campus and continue to settle into the new semester, I have some great news to share: We will be conducting fully in-person commencement events for our spring and summer graduates!
