Transformation 2030 continues to unfold as “living, breathing” plan

As I prepare to speak at my final Commencement ceremonies in December and my stepping down from my role as president at San José State at the end of the year, I would like to reflect on Transformation 2030 and the incredible progress we have made in making this a living, breathing, actionable strategic plan.

SJSU’s digital transformation was no accident, but a result of planning and forward-thinking

While the pandemic these past 18 months has been fraught with many challenges for institutions such as ours, a silver lining of sorts at San José State has been the incredible success of our digital platforms. Specifically, the SJSU technology team was critical to our ability to pivot to a virtual environment when we suddenly needed to do so.

Stepping Away from the Presidency

On September 25, after thoughtful consideration and discussions with my family, I made the decision to step away as president of San José State University at the end of the fall semester. I truly love this university and believe this choice will allow the focus going forward to be on our talented, diverse, and outstanding campus. I will conclude my tenure as president on December 21, 2021.

Our Growing Reputation As Silicon Valley’s Public Graduate School

I had the opportunity earlier this spring to offer welcome remarks at the CSU’s Grad Slam competition. As our College of Graduate Studies is the first graduate college in the CSU system, we were honored and delighted to host our Cal State colleagues and campus representatives. The event reminded me of all the amazing progress we have made with our graduate programs these past few years.
