Looking ahead to summer and fall
I hope many of you had the opportunity to see Spartan success in action at one of our inspiring spring commencement ceremonies. We now have over 10,000 new alumni — with more than 7,500 graduates in spring 2022 and 2,500 in fall 2021 — proudly holding diplomas from San José State University.
Yesterday’s tragedy in Texas
As SJSU celebrates and honors its spring and summer graduates this week, we now do so with very heavy hearts. Our campus community feels deep sorrow, grief and anger on behalf of the innocent victims and loved ones killed in yesterday’s shooting tragedy in Uvalde, Texas.

As the spring semester comes to a close, I am eagerly looking forward to an awesome week of commencement ceremonies. It’s a great week to be a Spartan! We’re so excited and grateful to be able to share this incredible time with our 2022 graduating class as well as with their families, friends and other loved ones.
This weekend’s horrific shooting in Southern California
It pains me to write another message regarding a horrifying mass shooting. This one occurred over the weekend and targeted a Christian church in Southern California whose congregation is mostly of Taiwanese descent.
