In the West regional rankings, SJSU rose three spots to #4 in Top Public Schools. Fifteen states make up the U.S. News and World Report’s West region. SJSU also ranked in the top three among public universities in the West in three other categories:

Additional West regional rankings include:

  • #7 – Social Mobility (among public universities)
  • #15 – Least Debt (for graduates)

Nationally, the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering continues to be recognized as one of the best programs in the country, coming in at #3 among public universities — and #15 overall — on the Best Undergraduate Engineering Program – Non-Doctorate list. Mechanical engineering ranked #4 among public universities — and #14 overall.

“Recognition like this is always great to see,” said SJSU Interim President Steve Perez. “These latest rankings reflect many of the awesome attributes we possess as a university and are the result of the tremendous work of our students, staff and faculty. No matter what one may be looking for in a public university — excellent academic offerings, good bang for the buck, a diverse and welcoming environment — SJSU is the place to be.”

U.S. News and World Report’s rankings focus on academic excellence, with institutions ranked on 17 measures of academic quality, including graduation and retention rates, social mobility and undergraduate academic reputation.

SJSU also recently appeared in the 2022 Washington Monthly College Guide and Rankings and Forbes America’s Top Colleges rankings. San José State ranked #53 among master’s institutions in the Washington Monthly rankings and in the top 20 among California schools on the Forbes list.

Last week, SJSU ranked #6 among master’s institutions in the 2022 STARS (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System) Top Performers list presented by Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education.
