Many organizations are rallying to assist former Kappa Sigma fraternity house residents, many of whom escaped with no more than the shirts on their backs before their home was engulfed in flames early June 21.

Check the fraternity website for the latest information on fundraisers. Several local businesses and organizations have stepped in to help, including SJSU, which has established a relief fund.

You can give online at the following website. Click “Give: Your Support Counts.” In the “other purpose” section, enter “Student Emergency Fund-Kappa Sigma.” The website address is: http://www.sjsu.edu/advancement/giving/

Or you send checks to the Tower Foundation of San Jose State University, One Washington Square, San Jose, CA, 95192-0183. In the memo section of the check, write “Student Emergency Fund-Kappa Sigma.”

The Red Cross, SJSU, and the Associated Students of San Jose State University (our student government) are working together to provide Kappa Sigma with basic necessities.

University Housing and neighboring fraternity houses have offered temporary accommodations to all 28 young men displaced by the blaze. The fire destroyed much of the 20,000-square-foot structure at 168 S. 11th St., as well as the personal belonging of the residents.
