San Jose State is pleased to announce we have an agreement in place with the Clarion Hotel San Jose Airport for fall term student housing.

Slightly more than 100 Spartans will spend fall term living in doubles at the hotel, three miles north of campus along the light rail line.

With freshmen enrollment surging, San Jose State announced July 15 it would assign some returning undergrads planning to live on campus to a nearby business-class hotel for student housing.

SJSU expects to enroll approximately 4,000 first-time freshmen this fall, up from 2,760 first-time freshmen one year ago. At the same time, in order to boost student success rates, the university is requiring all first-time frosh from more than 30 miles away to live on campus.

As a result, demand for campus housing has outstripped supply, and SJSU turned to returning students for help. University Housing Services emailed the following message August 3 to all affected students. #

Thank you for your patience as the university finalized the hotel arrangements. We are now pleased to announce the location, the Clarion Hotel San Jose Airport at 1355 N. Fourth St. Just three miles from campus, the Clarion Hotel is a resort-style property, with an outdoor pool, spa, restaurant, fitness room, laundry facilities, and Wi-Fi in each of the resident rooms. There is free parking on site and residents will have access to all hotel services. For more information, please go to the hotel website. We also encourage you to check our website for updates.

Here’s something you’ll want to know: We are making arrangements for an open house at the Clarion Hotel so that relocated residents can see the property and a model room before moving in. The open house date and time will be announced on our website, so please stay tuned. Our staff will be available to answer questions, share campus meal plan options, and show you the rooms and hotel grounds. All residents will be housed in a double room, sharing a private bathroom. Each room will be furnished with standard hotel furniture including two full-size beds and a mini refrigerator. A study lounge will also be available on site for residents.  All rooms will be serviced weekly by housekeepers who will clean bathrooms and vacuum floors.

University Housing Services staff will live on site at the hotel. We will do our very best to provide you a community experience modeled after the residence halls located on campus. Staff will be on duty and available to residents to address issues and concerns as well as facilitate educational programs and academic support.

Hotel residents will have two choices for transportation. The Clarion Hotel is located within walking distance of the light rail, with the Gish Station only 150 yards away. Alternatively, Clarion Hotel residents can purchase an SJSU parking permit to park on campus.

Special campus meal plan/Dining Dollar options have been created at discounted rates for Clarion Hotel residents. Please visit the Spartan Shops website for more details.

Please keep in mind you can still elect to cancel your license agreement and receive a refund. To cancel your license agreement, please complete, sign and send us the cancellation form via U.S. mail by August 10, 2011. You will receive your refund within six weeks in the same form you sent the funds to us.

If we do not hear from you, we will look forward to seeing you at the Clarion Hotel. Once assignments are finalized, you will receive more information including the date and time of check-in as well as a list of things to bring. We will do our very best to get this info including room assignments to you by August 12.

Thank you again for your continued patience as we do our best to work through this situation. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at (408) 795-5600 or at UHS-FrontDesk@sjsu.edu.
