Music Education
“Playing music is fun!”
Since childhood, President’s Scholar Johns has made music part of her life, supported by parents she calls her “greatest influence.” When Johns decided she wanted to play the flute, they arranged for private lessons, and when she needed to be driven across town for “late-night activities,” they “grabbed a coffee” and hopped to. In choosing music as a profession, Johns says she “simply took the best part of my life and turned in into a career.” As a music instructor, her goal is to pass along to students her boundless love of music. In her SJSU classrooms, she learned this: “College isn’t about learning every detail, but about obtaining the skills and resources to solve problems as they arise.”
