Orfeo Ed Euridice SJSOT

“Will true love conquer all?” is the question Christoph Gluck asks in his masterful operatic retelling of the Orpheus myth. When his beloved bride Eurydice dies on their wedding day, Orpheus travels to the Underworld in a desperate bid to get her back. Facing both the Furies of Hell and the dilemma of a divine interdiction, Orpheus’ only weapon is the power of music. Full of touching melodies, stunning choruses, and striking orchestration, Gluck’s 1762 masterpiece vividly brings to life the story of a love stronger than death. (Sung in Italian with English supertitles.)
