Statement to SJSU Lurie College Students from Dean Heather Lattimer | March 7, 2020

Hello Lurie College students —

The situation continues to evolve as we all monitor the status of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the community response.  At this time, SJSU remains open and classes continue as regularly scheduled. The Santa Clara County Office of Education and the County Public Health Department are not recommending school closures at this time.  Most schools and clinics across the region remain open.

At this time, we expect students in field placements to continue to participate in your school and clinic placements as long as your sites remain open. However, if a student has a compromised immune system or some other reasonable health concern and believes that going to their placement could present an unnecessary risk, you should notify your supervisor and field placement coordinator. Supervisors and field placement coordinators will work with you to determine appropriate next steps. If you have questions / concerns about your individual health risks, please contact the student health center or your individual health care provider.

If you think you have been exposed to 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19), do NOT come to campus nor go to your field placement site(s). Please contact your supervisor and program coordinator immediately by phone, text, or email. Please also contact the Lurie College Dean’s Office at luriecollege@sjsu.edu.

This is a very fluid situation and conditions are likely to change. We are in communication with university leadership, school and community partners, and credentialing and licensing agencies and will keep you posted if expectations change. You can also follow updates from SJSU’s newsroom.

Thank you for your patience as we all work to respond to this evolving public health challenge. We appreciate your support for the health and well being of our Lurie College family and the larger San Jose community!

With gratitude —
Heather
