SJSU IT Tips – Bringing Duo to a New Device

Spartans,

If you switch mobile devices often, lost yours, or are thinking of getting a new one, here’s a tip on transferring your Duo Multi-Factor Authentication: backing up and restoring your Duo account makes moving between devices easy.

  • Make sure you are running the latest version of the Duo Mobile App on your current mobile device.
  • For iPhones and iPads, backup your device to iCloud with iCloud Keychain enabled and Duo’s Instant Restore feature will move your authenticator to your new device. Here’s a walkthrough on how to set it up
  • On Android devices, enable Duo Restore in the Duo Mobile app settings. Just make sure you backup to the personal Google Account you used to activate your mobile device and you can restore your Duo settings from that same account on your new device. Here’s a full guide on how to set it up

If those options don’t work for you, or you forget to backup before you switch, don’t worry: the SJSU IT Service Desk is here to help. Resetting your Duo account so you can set it up on your new device is easy and only takes a few minutes. You can call the SJSU IT Service Desk by phone at (408) 924-1530, schedule a virtual appointment online, or visit in person on the first floor of Clark Hall (take a right when you walk in the front doors).

Thank you Sharon Watkins, our Lead Service Desk Support Specialist, for supporting our campus community and providing this tip.
